You have flown a long way and spent a great deal of money to be in Indonesia. Going home three days after the wedding is the most common regret we hear.
Stay, then go somewhere different
The most satisfying shape is a couple of easy nights near the wedding while the last guests leave, and then a move somewhere that feels nothing like where you got married.
If the wedding was on the south coast, that means inland or offshore. Munduk and the highlands give you cool air, lakes, and waterfalls after a week of heat. Nusa Lembongan and the Gili Islands give you an island with no traffic and very little to do.
What is worth the travel
We are honest about the transfers. Some of the journeys people romanticise eat an entire day at each end, and after a wedding that is a real cost.
- Ubud to the coast, or the reverse: about ninety minutes, always worth it for the change of scene
- Lembongan: a thirty-minute boat from Sanur, the best value island trip in Bali
- The Gilis: up to two and a half hours by boat, worth it for four nights or more, not for two
- Amed and the east coast: three hours by road, for divers and for couples who want nobody around
- The highlands: three hours, and the temperature change makes it feel much further

Common questions
How long should we stay after the wedding?+
At least four or five nights, and a week if you can. The two days after a wedding are not a honeymoon, they are recovery, and couples who fly home on day three consistently regret it. You are already here and the flight is already paid for.
Should we leave Bali or stay put?+
Either works and moving less is usually better. If your wedding was in the south, going somewhere genuinely different such as the highlands or the islands makes the honeymoon feel separate. If you are tired, staying in one good villa and doing nothing is a legitimate plan.
When should we book it?+
While we are planning the wedding, not afterwards. The best villas and the good rooms on the small islands book out early, and doing it as one conversation costs you nothing extra. Leaving it until the month before is how couples end up with whatever is left.
Do we have to check out the morning after the wedding?+
Not if we plan it properly. We usually hold your room or villa for the following night as well. Checking out at eleven the morning after your own wedding is a miserable way to begin a honeymoon, and it is an easy thing to arrange in advance.
Is the wet season a problem for a honeymoon?+
Less than it is for a wedding. Rain here mostly arrives as heavy afternoon showers rather than all-day grey, and the islands and the highlands are quieter and cheaper between November and March. Boat crossings are the part that suffers, so we build a buffer around those.
